Frenchtown Towpath Bike Ride

Come along for the ride!

Frenchtown Towpath Loop (20 Mile Ride)

Saturday, October 29 – 8:30am (meet-up time)

led by WASC member Manny Coelho

WASC’s own experienced “Cycling Sherpa”

Time: Ride starts at 9:00am but get there by 8:30 am to prepare.

Directions: Take RT 202 south to Flemington.  At Flemington Circle take RT 12 to Frenchtown. At Frenchtown where RT 12 ends, make a left onto Race St and then quickly bear right onto Bridge St. Parking for ride is on your left before bridge to PA and next to the Bridge Café.

If having difficulty call Manny at 732-259-8990.

About Our Ride Leader: Manny Coelho is an experienced ride leader and will lead the ride and make sure everyone keeps together. He will also give a safety talk at start of ride. Keep his cell phone with you in case you need it - 732-259-8990!

Description: We will start in Frenchtown on the Delaware & Raritan Canal Towpath and head south ~10 miles to Bull Island, where we will cross the bridge to Lumberville. We stop at Lumberville General Store for a rest stop. (We make a left after crossing the footbridge and the rest stop is across the street opposite the Black Bass Inn.)

After rest stop, we'll pick up the Historic Delaware Canal Towpath (part of the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor) which was used to transport hundreds of tons of goods to NYC and Philadelphia. We’ll ride north with beautiful views of the Delaware. We’ll follow the trail and take a brief stop at the Uhlerstown Covered Bridge before heading back to Frenchtown across the bridge. Restrooms at Bull Island.

Distance: This is a flat ~20-mile bike ride on a hard packed surface. The entire ride will be along the Delaware River.

Equipment: For this ride, you need a hybrid or mountain bike.  Manny does not recommend a road bike. You must have a helmet or you don’t ride with us, water, a spare tube is recommended, and we recommend having a back-of-bike red light. At the start, Manny will have a foot pump to check your tire pressure and adjust if necessary, and will be bringing tools, pump and repair kit for flats or other minor repair needs along the ride.
