 What you’ll need to bring:  Daypack containing your lunch, at least 2 liters of water, extra warm clothing, and rainwear.  Good hiking boots strongly recommended.  Joe might bring his famous cookies.

Note:  This is a strenuous 8-mile hike. It is not especially difficult, but you should be in good physical condition. There are no chairlifts! You’ll be rewarded with fabulous views, interesting geology, and beautiful fall colors as we walk along Schunemunk’s rocky ridge. Expect the hike to take six hours. Stormy weather will cancel or postpone.

Directions: Take I-87 New York Thruway, keeping right to Exit 16 (Harriman). Proceed west on N.Y. Route 17 to Exit 130, and continue north on N.Y. Route 208 for 2.7 miles. Just beyond the Blooming Grove Plaza shopping center, bear right at the fork onto Clove Road (County Route 27). In 4.4 miles, turn right onto Otterkill Road and proceed for 0.7 mile to a trailhead parking area on the left side of the road.
