About this event
Start getting ready for the slopes with a hike up Devil's Half Acre.
Sunday, October 6, 2024
Meet at 9:15am - Hike steps off at 9:30am
What you need to bring
Daypack containing your lunch, at least 2 liters of water, extra warm clothing, and rainwear. Good hiking boots strongly recommended.
What you need to know
Note: This is a 4.9 Mile Hike through the Sourland Mountain Preserve that should take 3-4 hours to complete. There is a good size climb to start and many interesting geologic outcrops, stream corridors and beautiful forests with nesting birds and other wildlife if we are not too loud. This is a great trail and while not as long or strenuous as the Schunemunk it still requires you are reasonably fit and, it can serve as a good measure of your readiness for the second hike later in the month. Stormy weather (not drizzle) will cancel or postpone.
Where you need to go
We will meet in the Sourland Mountain County Preserve Parking lot. Take Route 22 West to Route 202 South. Continue through the traffic circle onto 202 South again and in about 1.3 miles you will make a slight right in order to Turn LEFT onto 1st Avenue. Stay on 1st Ave for 3.2 miles then LEFT onto Beekman Lane. 1.1 miles on Beekman then turn RIGHT onto Amwell Rd. Continue for 1.1 miles then turn LEFT onto East Mountain Road. Continue for 1.9 miles and turn RIGHT to enter the Sourland Mountain Preserve Parking Lot.
Please register here online so we will know you'll be there!
