January
is the month of the year named after
the Roman god Janus who supposedly had
two heads. One head looked back to the
past, while the other looked
forward to the future. This is significant
for us. The first few months of the
2002-2003 ski season are gone but not
forgotten. And many exciting trips and
events are yet to come.
Although many
of us have been skiing since early
December, the season is really upon
us. This is it! We must enjoy it to
the fullest. The future is now. Every
moment on the trails is a new and
exciting experience that must be savored
while it is here.
With this in mind,
I would like to focus on those WASC
members who have volunteered and contributed
by working to keep WASC strong in
the last few months. We come together
not only to ski, but to develop relationships
to help us meet that end. All of you
who participated in making the social
events of the Fall a success deserve
recognition and thanks. (Cathy and
Paul should have been the queen and
king of the Jamboree, and in our hearts
they are.)
Currently, others
are working on the trips to come.
After the success of the Hunter trip,
the upcoming trips hold equal promise.
Along with the Sunday bus trips, the
Club Outing location of Bromley is
innovative and could start a new tradition.
Ascutney appears to be a sell out.
Mount St. Anne and Mammoth should
be also. There is a lot of good skiing
to look forward to thanks to the efforts
of the trip leaders.
Interest in Watchung
is growing. There is the potential
for several new members. We need to
pass on our spirit to them in the
hope of expanding our membership.
Thanks go out to all of you who speak
up about Watchung and spread to word
to friends and acquaintances. You
are helping the growth of WASC.
January, 2003
is not only a time to look back and
a time to look ahead. It is also a
time to relish the present. The present
is now. Now is the time to ski.
