| As
the summer of 2002 moves on, I would like
to reflect on the last ski season and
project some thoughts for the new one
to come. In spite of a difficult beginning
due to all the fears concerning 9/11,
Watchung persisted to meet its goals.
Looking ahead, many exciting things are
in place for the 2002-2003 ski season.
The club
succeeded in the face of some problems.
Watchung ran many successful trips in
2002 even though there appeared to be
little snow. We often forget that just
because we don’t see snow here, there
is snow where it counts. Another impediment
we faced was the absence of our president
Ted for many of the meetings due to
his work obligations. This gave me a
chance to try on the role and it gave
all of you a chance to realize how important
each and every member is to the success
of an organization.
The officers
and council members have met to plan
many trips and activities for the new
season. The 2 new officers, V.P. J.R.
Mascolo and Secretary Deb Kessler, have
great ideas to contribute to a successful
season. Along with the help of the old
officers and committee members Bob G.,
Cathy N., Michele M., Kurt F., Ted N.,
Frank G., and John C., things are in
place to start the new season off with
a BANG in September. Come out for the
first meeting on September 19 to find
out the details.
Watchung
belongs to each and every one of its
members. It is important to get the
thoughts, feelings, and suggestions
from each one of you. As the new President,
I need this imput from all of you in
order to carry out the traditions set
in motion over 60 years by the original
members. Our purpose, to “promote, foster,
and perpetuate the sport of skiing in
all its branches and do so with dignity
and honor,” can be achieved through
the friendships developed while helping
each other advance skiing opportunities.
Watchung
has a good core of consistent members.
I will be calling on each of you to
do 3 things as the year goes on: run
activities, bring in new members, and
help reconnect with older members who
have become uninvolved at the present.
With the help of all of you, 2002-2003
will be the best ski season ever!!!!!
