 Summertime For Watchung

“Summertime, and the living is easy”

That’s the time that WASC members get busy

Life’s not all fun and games

But “all work and no play makes Jack (and others) a dull boy”

As the song lyrics and adages above reminds us, WASC is moving into another season, summer. At this time, life changes for us.

Many of us have put off domestic chores and work responsibilities in order to spend the time skiing. Now that the snow has melted, the pull of the mountains has subsided. So we now have time to catch up with our homes, yards, jobs, and relationships with those in our lives who don’t ski. So, WASC gets busy catching up.

But we don’t spend the whole spring and summer working. Club members find other ways to keep in touch with other forms of relaxation. Formally and informally, WASC still finds time to “play” and remain active.

This “play” takes many forms. Golf is one activity that interests many of us. Others endeavors include biking, hiking, white water rafting, and camping. Rollerblading is another attraction along with softball and other sports.

There are less active pastimes that pull people together. Beach and food and music fests abound. Movies, with the addition of possibly viewing at a drive-in, provide other options. And there are club members who graciously host barbecues, pool parties, and firework displays.

New ideas are welcome. The message board is available to post ideas for events and seek out participants. The web-site lists weekly schedules with contact numbers for people who have a yen for a certain activity. Take advantage of what interests you. Recruit others to join in by posting ideas on the message board or contacting the webmaster to include the idea on the web-site listings. Our webmaster is always looking for new ideas to include in his summer suggestions repertoire.

Summer is also the time when the club officers get in gear. They gather together to do the important work of planning trips, social events, and other special happenings for the coming year.

Although WASC has no business meetings during this time, members continue to meet at the Elks Club once a month throughout the summer. June 12 is the next summer meeting date. Put it on you calendar and plan to attend.

Summer is a time WASC recuperates from the last ski season and prepares mentally and physically for the new one to come. As much as we want to ski, a rest is important. Use the time well and be ready to meet 2003-2004 with new zeal.

I wish you all a safe, healthy, and satisfying summer and hope to see you sometime during the summer months.
