What we do know is this. Marianne
Appel lived in Woodstock, New York, so the chances
are that the aid was given on a slope in the
Catskills, though not necessarily so. Ms. Appel
was an artist of some stature, and the fact
that she painted a picture in appreciation leads
me to believe that the aid given was either
extensive, or the person we helped was dear
to her. And lastly, since the painting was presented
sometime after the event took place, she knew
how to contact us. Perhaps we were frequenting
the same area - did we have a 'home hill' in
1941?
If you can shed any light on this
mystery, call or write.
