There is a story behind this painting, a tale lost in the haze of time.

In 1941, a group of Watchung skiers aided an injured woman on the hill. In appreciation, her friend, Marianne Appel, painted this lovely ski scene and presented it to the club.

We know very little about the actual event and would be very interested to learn of the circumstances

and of the participants. Few of you reading this were skiing with Watchung in 1941, but you may remember seeing the painting and may have heard a snippet of what happened.
What we do know is this. Marianne Appel lived in Woodstock, New York, so the chances are that the aid was given on a slope in the Catskills, though not necessarily so. Ms. Appel was an artist of some stature, and the fact that she painted a picture in appreciation leads me to believe that the aid given was either extensive, or the person we helped was dear to her. And lastly, since the painting was presented sometime after the event took place, she knew how to contact us. Perhaps we were frequenting the same area - did we have a 'home hill' in 1941?

If you can shed any light on this mystery, call or write.
