WASC ventured into new territory last season. In an attempt to attract interest in our club and advertise the upcoming Open House,
Sylvia Degrado and Cathy Nevins came up with the idea of sponsoring a table at local street fairs. Last year's fairs were so successful that we decided to do it again. Sylvia, along with Carolyn Titz, was able to register WASC for two events: the Westfield FestiFall on September 28 and the Cranford Street Fair on October 12. With the help of Kathi Wolder who designed the brochure for the 2008-2009 ski season and Jean Marie Krahnert who printed out the necessary copies for distribution, Sylvia, Carolyn, Jessica Gittleman, Helen Gorina, Giancarlo Rivera, Kathi Wolder, Maryjean Butler, Tony Nicoli, Bob Gittleman and his friend Eileen, Bob's sister visiting from Florida, and I were ready to accost the public on September 28. And accost them we did!

On a day that started out rainy, armed with new brochures, other pertinent items from the Open House container, and an assortment of chocolate candy (which no one can resist), we were ready for the passersby! After a slow start due to dismal morning conditions, they came in droves as midday progressed into a humid afternoon. All we had to do was reel them in by asking the important question, "Do you want to ski?" which worked like a charm.
The group of us spent the day talking, explaining details and facts about the club, and getting names and addresses of potential members. Many said they would be attending our Open House on October 23. (Let's hope we were successful in enticing them to come out.)
The next event is in Cranford on October 12. Sylvia and Carolyn will again be at the table with any other volunteers that can make it. Your help is welcome!!!

Of course, this year's Open House will be the final test of our success. With the help of all of our members
, we can make this an excellent beginning to another awesome ski season!
